Visa facilitation for the Western Balkans
Tuesday, 29 January 2008
The agreements on visa facilitation and readmission between the European Community and Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia enter into force on 1. January 2008. Visa facilitation will make travelling to the EU easier for citizens of Western Balkan countries, thus rendering the European perspective more tangible. It is also a first step towards the establishment of a visa-free regime.

All travellers to the EU will benefit from lower visa fee rates. Visa fee rates will remain for all at the level of 35 €, when fees were recently increased for most countries in the world to 60 €, and certain categories such as students and pensioners will be exempted from visa fees. The processing of visa applications will be accelerated. For certain categories of persons, e.g. businessmen, students and journalists, the requirements on documents supporting a visa application will be simplified. Certain categories of frequent travellers will be granted multi-entry visas with long periods of validity. Finally, holders of diplomatic passports will be exempted from the visa obligation.

It should be noted that these agreements do not apply for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, The Kingdom of Denmark, the Republic of Iceland and the Kingdom of Norway.

You can read more about the new rules on visa facilitation here:

Forum “EU Integration – Local Task Forces in Action”
Thursday, 20 December 2007
The Citizens’ Pact for Southeast Europe together with the Serbian European Integration Office, Office for European Affairs of Vojvodina and IKV Pax Christi  organized the “European Integration – Local Task Forces in Action”. Forum took place in the amphitheatre of SPENS in Novi Sad (Vojvodina, Serbia) on 4th and 5th December, 2007.

This Forum was not of a seminar type that is  organised every week. The Forum was the beginning of a type of informal regional network of local communities which will work for European integration in the local context, and at the same time will challenge their own national government to enhance the reform processes. All participating municipalities, together with the local NGO's and citizens' initiatives, agreed to set up a Local Task Force for European Integration. The organisers of the Forum will provide assistance to these Task Forces  and will organise regular regional meetings to discuss the progress and learn from one another.
